In the most recent UK Research Assessment Exercise, the University ranked 5th out of 80 in the United Kingdom for 5* ratings and ranked 4th in terms of research power. University structure With more than 20.000 students and 6,000 staff, the University covers all of the major disciplines of study: Arts; Divinity; Education; Law; Medicine; Veterinary Medicine; Science & Engineering; Social Sciences.The University structure is based on three Colleges containing a total of 21 Schools. Research strategy The University's research profile has helped to attract to Edinburgh a number of major research centres supported by the Research Councils and other agencies, and it has a strong commitment to fostering transdisciplinary research programmes and research partnerships with a wide range of institutions (including those within the ECRR).Edinburgh enjoys an international standing, with many world-wide academic links, and recruits students - comprising one third of its postgraduates - from over 100 different countries. Commercialisation of research The commercialisation of the University's research activities is conducted via Edinburgh Research and Innovation (ERI), which maintains links with both private investor networks and development agencies at local, national and international levels.ERI also supports the setting up technology-focused businesses at various stages:
