The Institute's principal research aims are to advance basic and strategic knowledge of infectious agents and of the host response to them and to use that knowledge to develop new strategies for improved control or prevention of disease. Research organisation Research at MRI spans all levels of biological organisation, from molecular through cellular, tissue, organ, whole animal and population studies. Research programmes are managed within three divisions: To facilitate interaction between divisions, there are three cross-divisional themes: Research in each of the divisions are supported by the Functional Genomics Unit. Technology transfer Moredun Scientific Ltd. (MSL) is the commercial arm of the Moredun Group and provides contract research, as well as collaborative research and technology services, to the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries. Research trainingMoredun attracts many home and overseas scientists for collaborative research or specialised training. Postgraduate students can pursue supervised research for a PhD at Moredun while registered at Edinburgh, Glasgow or other UK Universities.
