Research focuses on fundamental questions relating to strategies for sustainable aquaculture, whether in modern commercial markets or in feeding poor communities in developing countries. The Institute currently has a staff of more 110 and 120 postgraduate students with an annual operating budget of approximately 5 million pounds. The Institute has links with many other academic institutions, throughout Europe, and further afield, including:
Disease and environmental management services are provided to industry as well as project design, development and management through Stirling Aquaculture, which received the Queens Award for Industry in 1990. Research is carried out in the following groups:
