Research within the School of Biological & Life Sciences is divided into four major areas:

• Applied Psychology
• Biological Sciences
• International Centre for Brewing and Distilling
• Food Science
• Marine Science
• Sport & Exercise Science

The School of Engineering and Physical Sciences is active in a wide range of research areas including renewable energy and ocean systems.

The School of the Built Environment is a lead institution on research in topics relevant to sustaining and developing the built environment. Research of importance to rural and coastal communities includes work undertaken in the following groups:

• Drainage
• Environmental Science
• Sustainable Water Management

Facilities

Heriot-Watt has four student campuses: three in Scotland - Edinburgh, the Scottish Borders and Orkney - and one in Dubai.
