Edinburgh Centre for Tropical Forests

ECTF is a partnership of five Edinburgh-based member organisations that takes advantage of their strongly complementary missions and close proximity to share experience and work together on projects.

The member organisations are:

  • Centre for Ecology & Hydrology
  • Forestry Commission
  • LTS International
  • Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh
  • University of Edinburgh
Since its establishment in 1990, ECTF activities have progressively moved from a focus on tropical forestry to include areas such as rural development, biodiversity, global and environmental studies.

ECTF operates in a flexible way with one or more of its constituent organisations acting in concert as appropriate for a particular contract. It also works with non-member organisations and consultants in situations where external expertise is required.

Some recent ECTF projects

  • Bhutan Medicinal Plants Project Phase II, (EuropeAid, 2004-2008)
  • Darwin Initiative Monitoring & Evaluation Programme (DEFRA, Phase II, 2003-2006)
