The primary remit of BioSS is to support the Scottish Executive Environment and Rural Affairs Department's research programme through specialist advice and training for SEERAD's sponsored bodies. Major Scottish clients include:
BioSS also provides specialist support to a number of private clients in the UK and internationally. Consultancy BioSS consultants provide statistical advice on a wide range of topics including experimental design and analysis, environmental monitoring, pest and disease management, sensory analysis, consumer profiling and risk analysis. Staff have expertise of particular relevance to clients working in areas of biotechnology.Research BioSS has an international reputation for its research programme in biomathematics and statistics and staff supervise postgraduate and postdoctoral researchers in conjunction with many universities including those at Aberdeen, Dundee, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Heriot-Watt, St Andrews, Strathclyde, Cambridge and Leeds.Training BioSS offers a broad range of training in statistics and mathematics for biological scientists, ranging from the elementary to the advancxed levels including instruction in the use of statistical computer packages. Courses are presented regularly throughout Scotland and training is provided to visiting statisticians from overseas.
